MELROSE TRIANGLE
West Hollywood, CA
The proposed Melrose Triangle is guided by the site’s distinctive triangular geometry, its role as a prominent gateway location, and the City of West Hollywood’s objectives for high-quality, context-sensitive urban development. The architectural concept emerged from a careful analysis of surrounding neighborhoods, commercial corridors, and community priorities. The resulting design introduces three articulated buildings that step down in height to respect adjacent residential areas while framing active public plazas, a central courtyard, and pedestrian connections. A defining feature of the Project is the central courtyard, which serves as the heart of the development and is directly connected to Santa Monica Boulevard by a broad set of landscaped gateway steps. These steps create a dramatic, civic-scaled entry sequence that draws pedestrians into the site, links the public realm to plaza, and reinforces the Project’s identity as a landmark destination. The courtyard is designed with seating, planting, and active frontages, ensuring that it functions as a vibrant gathering space for both residents and the broader community.
The Santa Monica Building would be approximately 172,749 square feet with approximately 42,419 square feet of commercial uses and approximately 130,330 square feet of residential uses (139 residential units). The Melrose Building would be approximately 134,763 square feet with approximately 52,119 square feet of commercial uses and approximately 82,644 square feet of residential uses (92 residential units). The Almont Building would be approximately 41,374 square feet with approximately 12,101 square feet of commercial uses and approximately 29,273 square feet of residential uses (59 residential units). The Project would include a total of 290 residential apartment units.
